Protecting Our Inner Fortress from F-E-A-R

  1. While reading the below quote, determine what your inner fortress may be.

“No, it is events that give rise to fear- when another has power over them or can prevent them, that person becomes able to inspire fear. How is the fortress destroyed? Not by iron or fire, but by judgements… here is where we must begin, and it is from this front that we must seize the fortress and throw out the tyranny.” – Epictetus, Discourses

Now…..

What is your inner fortress?

Could it be your peace of mind, your piece of heaven – thats derived from the simply things in life or perhaps your inner fortress is your family and the structure that you’ve worked so very long and hard to build.

Whatever that “inner fortress” means to you, I can tell that it is very important. It is something held on sacred ground by you without a doubt. Why then, would we allow fear to take hold on that fortress? Would you allow someone that you met for 2 minutes to persuade you that a loved one that you’ve known for your entire life is a bad person. I hope not!

This is the same question that we must ask ourselves and challenge, “why”.

This one is for the ladies! (Sorry gents…not too sorry though) If walking around my house without a bra on after a long day is considered my inner fortress then… by golly ….I will not allow the fear of having a medical issue along the line stop me.

Better yet, if loving someone from the inside out is what brings my inner peace then I refuse to allow someone else to change my opinion on who to love, how to act, and what is right.

Do you understand?

This is what we do when we lose our nerve and give in to fear. We back down and hide. Don’t hide anymore, stand in your power and stand within your inner fortress.
